Barry J. Shea, IFA
Barry J. Shea has been actively engaged in the real estate industry in New Hampshire since January 1983. Beginning in Southern New Hampshire selling residential, small income, and commercial properties, he moved to the Lakes Region in September 1985 where in addition to the above he became active in the second home market. He began appraising real estate in May 1987. Mr. Shea has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from
Southern New Hampshire University and a Master of Science Degree in Business
Education from the same institution. After becoming involved in real estate he completed numerous courses of study relating to valuation and evaluation of real estate including the required hours of qualifying education for residential certification. Mr. Shea holds the IFA designation from the National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers and is a past president of that organization's New Hampshire Chapter. He has also served as its New England Regional Governor and has sat on several national committees. He is a member the New Hampshire Commercial Industrial Board of REALTORS, and the New Hampshire and National Associations of REALTORS. Shea is a director and instructor for the Trans-American Institute of Professional Studies, a Senior National Instructor for the National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers. He has served as an adjunct instructor at the Southern New Hampshire University's Laconia Campus in Gilford and at New Hampshire Community Technical College (now known as Lakes Region Community College) in Laconia where he has taught several real estate, appraisal, and business courses. He is a Hew Hampshire State Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser (NHCR-13). He is also an AQB Certified USPAP Instructor. Immediately before founding Barry Shea and Associates (originally known as Ace Appraisal Services) in 1990, Mr. Shea was associated with Byse Appraisal Services in Laconia. He has been active in the Lakes Region Board of REALTORS, having served on the Grievance and Education Committees. In February 1999 Shea was appointed to the HUD Temporary Examination Task Force, a group of about 20 appraisers and others affected by HUD lending criteria. The mission of the task force was to develop an examination which is soon to be a prerequisite to admission to HUD roster of appraisers. Shea sat on the New Hampshire Real Estate Appraiser Board for approximately 5 years and is a past chair of that board. Shea has been qualified as an expert witness in several jurisdictions.
